Guan Yu,

often referred to as Guan Gong, is one of the most prominent and revered characters in the Chinese classic “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” (三国演义), written by Luo Guanzhong. The novel, set during the turbulent end of the Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period, blends historical events with myth and legend, and Guan Yu’s portrayal in it has elevated him to a near-mythical status in Chinese culture.
